Dr. Denise P. Gibbs, Director

    Dr. Denise P. Gibbs became the Director of the Scottish Rite Foundation of Alabama Learning Centers on September 1, 2001.  After teaching for more than 25 years, she retired from the University of Montevallo in August 2001 where she had been a professor in the Department of Communication Science and Disorders, Director of the Speech and Hearing Center, and Director of the Scottish Rite Clinic for Childhood Language Disorders. 
    Dr. Gibbs, who is a Fellow of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, served two terms as President of the Speech and Hearing Association of Alabama, has been a member of the Alabama Board of Examiners for Speech Pathology and Audiology, and has been a member of the Legislative Council of the American Speech-Language Hearing Association.  She has worked with dyslexic students throughout her career and has conducted numerous workshops and professional presentations for teachers, educational diagnosticians, and speech-language pathologists.  Dr. Gibbs is serving as the first President of the Alabama Branch of the International Dyslexia Association.  Dr. Gibbs is the author of Leading the Dyslexia Challenge: An Action Plan for Schoolwide Identification and Intervention  published by LRP publications in 2004.  She serves as a consultant to school districts across the country as they establish programs for students with dyslexia.
